An expedition team in the Russian Arctic has discovered the carcass of a baby mammoth that was still well preserved under the frozen snow.

The expedition team, led by Professor Natalia Fyodorova, said the mammoth’s remains were as well preserved as those of a 40,000-year-old mammoth named L yuba , discovered in the same location four years ago.

Scientists around the world were amazed when the body of the Lyuba mammoth was discovered.

Scientists plan to move the newly discovered mammoth’s body to the city of Salekhard (Russia) – where the mammoth’s body can be preserved in cold conditions to ensure it does not decompose.

Mammoths became extinct on Earth during the Ice Age, approximately 11,500 to 1.8 million years ago.

Scientists around the world were amazed when the body of the mammoth Lyuba was discovered. This mummy was preserved quite intact. Lyuba’s skin and internal organs were still quite intact even though the protective outer layer of fur was gone.
