People always ask me — and some even wonder — why I hide my kids, why I don’t post them online, and why I won’t use my popularity and influence to build a social media presence for them so they can gain recognition as they grow.

But listen, this showbiz industry is very toxic — and as many of you know, I’ve been a victim of cyberbullying and cyberstalking myself. Trust me, if you’re not mentally strong, these trolls can drive you crazy and push you into depression. I won’t let my kids become victims of that.

Sometimes I wish I could just shut down all my social media accounts, but I can’t — it’s where I make my money, and I don’t really have a choice. I have money, and it’s for my children to enjoy life. For now, I want them to focus on their education and keep enjoying my hard work.
When they’re old enough, they can choose for themselves — whether to open a social media account or live a private life like regular people. I’m not against celebrities who share their kids or families online — that’s their choice. This is mine.”- Funke Akindele
